Storm News: This does not mean our work is complete. We still have months of work to do cleaning up, and redoing work that may have been temporary in nature. The preliminary damage statistics are huge. We had approximately 56 miles of high voltage line damaged or o the ground, 8 miles of low voltage wire, and 15 miles of service wire down or damaged. In addition 30 transmission poles and over 250 distribution poles were broken. At the end of the restoration we had approximately 30 crews working to repair the damage to the system. Crews from Florida, Kentucky, and Tennessee all assisted with the work. The early estimate of the damage cost is $3,150,000. My sincere thanks goes to all the line workers, engineers, storeroom personnel, office and opertions support, and dispatchers who worked tirelessly through the 10 day ordeal to bring back power to our customers. Working under emergency conditions, the work accomplished was extremely physical, demanding and dangerous. Early reports indicate that we incurred one severe accident during the 10 day period. One employee fell from a truck and was transported to Erlanger Hospital. This person has been released and our prayers continue for full recovery. I would like to also like to thank the many local motels and restaurants who helped us lodge and feed the many workers we had from outside the rea who helped with our work. These establishements worked hard to help us meet the needs of our workers. Many homes will continue to request electric service be restored over the coming months as these homes are being repaired. The connecting of electric service back to these homes can be coordinated with Cleveland Utilities by the electricican doing the work.
